R. macabeanum is a large evergreen shrub or tree with magnificent glossy dark green leaves up to 30cm in length, whitish beneath. Flowers bell-shaped, pale to deep yellow with a purple blotch, in dense rounded trusses.
Plant in moist but well-drained acidic soil. Ultimate height is 8-12 metres.
Hardiness: Very hardy to around -10 degrees.
