Blechnum penna-marina

Blechnum penna-marina is an evergreen fern forming a mat of spreading, simply pinnate, dark green sterile fronds to 15cm in length, with narrower, erect fertile fronds, the young fronds often reddish.
At first glance you may not think of Blechnum penna-marina as one to get. But in the right situation when it naturalises and spreads it looks great. It’s a very easy fern to grow and is happy growing in shade.

Hardiness: This for me is the hardiest of the Blechnums and has come through the worst of our winters, including 2010.
